Armenian Speaker affirms: “Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan”
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has publicly stated that Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan.
Speaking to journalists in parliament on March 24, Simonyan addressed questions regarding the terminology used for the region. “Why do you say ‘Artsakh’? Then why are you upset when some territories of the Republic of Armenia are given Azerbaijani names—for example, if Sevan is given a different name?” he said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
When reminded that he had previously referred to the region as “Artsakh,” Simonyan admitted: “I was wrong. In that case, please don’t be upset when someone in another country calls Yerevan ‘Erivan’ or Sevan something else.”
In response to a journalist asserting, “Sevan is ours,” the parliament speaker reiterated: “And Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan.”
