Armenian speaker confirms talks with Azerbaijan, expresses optimism for peace
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan confirmed that negotiations between his country and Azerbaijan are continuing, highlighting a recent meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Sahiba Gafarova.
Speaking at a briefing, Simonyan emphasized both nations' shared interest in the swift normalization of relations, stressing the significance of ongoing diplomatic efforts to ensure stability and cooperation in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Simonyan described the meeting with Gafarova as a brief but constructive conversation held during the session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in St. Petersburg. The Armenian speaker noted that the encounter focused on the broader context of improving relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He further expressed his belief that Azerbaijan shares Armenia’s interest in the swift normalization of bilateral relations. Simonyan underscored the importance of mutual efforts in reaching a peaceful resolution, noting that both countries are motivated by the desire for stability and cooperation in the region.
Note that Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, and Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, attended the meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held last week.
