Georgian police arrest brothers accused of gang violence, extortion

Georgian police have arrested two organised crime figures in Tbilisi, brothers Giorgi and David Peikrishvili, on suspicion of gang-related violence and extortion.

According to investigators, Giorgi Peikrishvili allegedly demanded a large sum of money from a member of the public in exchange for so-called “criminal protection” and threatened to kill him if he refused, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media. 

Investigators also accuse David Peikrishvili and his bodyguard of assaulting a young man following a dispute.

The brothers had previously been involved in a criminal case in 2020, when they were identified as alleged targets of a planned contract killing.

According to Georgia’s State Security Service, three criminal figures from Georgia and Ukraine were allegedly involved in organising the attempted assassination.

The latest investigation into the Peikrishvili brothers remains ongoing.
