Türkiye: One student killed, four injured in school shooting UPDATED

One student was killed, and four others were injured after an unidentified gunman opened fire outside a school in the Turgutlu district of Türkiye’s Manisa province.

The armed attack took place outside a secondary school in Turgutlu, the Sözcü newspaper reported.

The assailant opened fire with a firearm, killing one student and injuring four others.

Police officers and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene following the shooting, Milliyet reported.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and the identity of the gunman.

An unidentified gunman opened fire outside the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Türkiye’s Manisa province, according to preliminary reports.

Yeni Şafak newspaper reported that students were injured in the incident.

The shooting occurred at around 8 a.m. local time in the Albayrak neighbourhood. Emergency services received a report of the attack via Türkiye’s 112 emergency hotline, following which numerous police units and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene.

Police officers and medical teams are continuing to work at the site. The motive for the shooting and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated.

The school is located in Turgutlu’s Albayrak neighbourhood.
