Armenian Speaker highlights Trump Route as key to regional peace

At the 12th plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Alen Simonyan addressed the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the declaration signed in Washington, and new regional cooperation initiatives.

Simonyan noted that significant progress had been achieved in establishing peace between Yerevan and Baku, as evidenced by the joint declaration signed by the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8, 2025, with the participation of the U.S. President, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

On the same day, the foreign ministers of the two countries also initialled the text of the Peace and Interstate Relations Agreement.

“The adoption of the declaration and the initialling of the peace agreement indicate that peace has already been established,” Simonyan stated.

He emphasised that following the Washington meeting, Armenia would continue its cooperation with the United States and other agreed third parties in implementing the ‘Trump Route to International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP) initiative.

“The TRIPP project aligns with Armenia’s vision of ensuring uninterrupted regional connectivity through the declared ‘Crossroads of Peace’ program. It envisages the development of railways, as well as the potential construction of highways, pipelines, power lines, and communication cables between Armenia, Azerbaijan, and neighbouring countries,” Simonyan said.

The Speaker also noted that Armenia welcomes the European Union’s new strategic approach to the Black Sea region, which, according to him, could provide a new impetus for regional stability and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is an annual inter-parliamentary forum that brings together members of the European Parliament and the parliaments of Eastern Partnership countries to promote political dialogue, cooperation, and integration between the European Union (EU) and its Eastern neighbours.
