Armenian Speaker plans meeting with Russian FM in upcoming Moscow visit

Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan will pay an official visit to Russia on February 5–6, where he intends to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

In an interview with Armenian media, Simonyan reminded that the visit will take place at the invitation of Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko, Caliber.Az reports.

“Of course, I will meet with her [Matviyenko], and a meeting with the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry is planned. That’s all for now, but there may be other meetings,” he said.

The Parliament speaker noted that during his latest phone conversation with his Russian counterpart on January 23, they discussed the agreed-upon but not yet signed documents at the regional level between the two countries. 

Simonyan also recalled the agreements reached during Matviyenko’s visit to Armenia on June 5 last year for the Russia-Armenia Regional Forum and the need for their ratification.

“These issues will be reviewed, along with Armenian-Russian relations and existing problems. We will also discuss matters related to holding Armenian Culture Days in Russia,” he said.
