Armenian Speaker vows to seal up Dashnaktsutyun party after elections
Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan has pledged to shut down the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) party after the 2026 parliamentary elections.
Commenting on the opposition’s stance regarding the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project, Simonyan accused ARF Dashnaktsutyun MP Armen Rustamyan of misrepresenting the initiative, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Rustamyan had argued that Armenia has no right to raise objections, veto contentious issues, or influence decision-making under TRIPP, claiming the country has effectively lost features of statehood and cannot “even speak up.”
“Such distortions and manipulations are typical only for someone from the ARF like Armen Rustamyan. For these people, political existence is possible only amid tragedy, war, and suffering. A sovereign and free Armenia, independent of any foreign capital, is their greatest fear. Without that, they cannot leverage external structures or operate in the political field,” Simonyan said.
