Armenian students increasingly opt to study Azerbaijani
High school students in Armenia choose Azerbaijani and Turkish as optional subjects to study.
Armenian Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Vahram Dumanyan made the remarks in an interview with journalists after the government meeting on September 8, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
"During the 44-day war, we were convinced at what level the enemy speaks Armenian. Armenian has been studied and continues to be studied in Azerbaijani schools," the minister said.
According to him, the ministry offered to study Azerbaijani and Turkish languages in high schools at will, and Georgian and Persian in the main ones.
Dumanyan noted that the majority of students choose to study Turkish and Azerbaijani for the same reason that Armenian is studied in Azerbaijan.
To recap, Russian, as well as any other foreign language (English, French or German) are taught in all schools of Armenia from the 2nd grade. Now schools in the republic will be able to choose a third foreign language for teaching. The main attention is paid to the languages of the regional countries - Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.
