Armenian top lawmaker recalls controversial Russian TV remark

Armenia’s National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan has recalled an incident in which Armenia was compared to a “promiscuous” woman during a talk show aired on a Russian television channel in 2015 or 2016.

“I do not remember the context, but such a statement was definitely made. It caused considerable outrage in Armenia,” Rubinyan said.

He stressed that foreign policy and international relations are driven by interests rather than emotions.

“International relations are linked to interests — economic, defence or security interests. International relations are not based on emotions,” Rubinyan said.
