Armenians in Russia Union chief vows support to unite Pashinyan’s opposers At 2026 elections
President of the Union of Armenians of Russia, Ara Abrahamyan, has announced plans to support the consolidation of political forces in Armenia opposing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the 2026 parliamentary elections.
In comments to Russian state news agency TASS, Abrahamyan stated that although he does not plan to run in the elections himself, he intends to use all available resources to help unite what he described as “healthy forces.” He stressed the importance of harnessing Armenia’s economic and human potential — including that of the diaspora — to contribute to the "country's revival," Caliber.Az reports.
Abrahamyan emphasised that most Armenians love their homeland and are prepared to come together for its "preservation and prosperity."
His remarks come amid rising political tensions in Armenia as preparations for the 2026 vote intensify.
Prime Minister Pashinyan has accused his political opponents of attempting to overthrow the government. In connection with these allegations, prominent businessman Samvel Karapetyan and two bishops were recently detained.
Pashinyan has also issued strong criticism of the Armenian Apostolic Church, deepening the rift between the government and religious authorities.
