Arrivals gridlock hits Yerevan airport amid flight congestion
Hundreds of arriving passengers faced lengthy delays at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport early on July 9 after crowding near passport control created significant congestion.
Large queues formed around 4 a.m. at the approach to passport control booths, according to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az. The situation was exacerbated when passengers misinterpreted queue barrier posts and lane dividers, leading to crowding and disorganisation.
It took approximately three hours for travellers to reach border control, a delay comparable to the duration of a typical flight from Moscow. The prolonged waiting time sparked frustration among passengers.
Those affected included members of Armenian football club Noah, who were among the travellers caught in the congestion.
The disruption occurred after the airport received nearly five flights within a short time frame, overwhelming the processing capacity at passport control.
