Astana to stage first electric air taxi demonstration flight

Astana will host its first demonstration flight of an electric air taxi on July 24, marking another step in Kazakhstan's efforts to develop advanced air mobility.

The trial will take place at the Kazanat Hippodrome and will feature the AutoFlight Prosperity electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

The aircraft is designed to carry one pilot and up to five passengers, with a top speed of 200 km/h and a maximum range of 200 kilometres.

The demonstration flight is scheduled to begin at 09:00 local time (08:00 Baku time), although organisers said the timing could change depending on weather conditions.

Kazakhstan has been expanding its eVTOL ambitions in recent months.

The country's first demonstration flights of the technology were held in Alatau in May 2026, while legislation regulating air taxis, eVTOL aircraft and unmanned aviation entered into force in June, providing a legal framework for the sector's development.
