At least 6 dead in shootings during Mississippi football gatherings
At least three shootings across Mississippi over the weekend, all apparently connected to high school football games, left several people dead—including an expectant mother—and others injured, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNN.
In the northwestern city of Leland, four people were killed and at least 12 others injured in a shooting late on October 10 or early October 11, the city’s mayor said. Mayor John Lee told CNN that 16 people were shot and four were killed near downtown Leland around midnight. He did not clarify whether the four fatalities were included in the total of 16 people shot.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, Mayor Lee said. An investigation is ongoing, the Leland Police Department told CNN, but no further details were released.
According to CNN affiliate WAPT, the shooting occurred during a gathering following Leland High School’s homecoming football game, citing state Senator Derrick Simmons. CNN was not immediately able to reach Simmons for comment.
