Attack on Azerbaijani monument as example of ordinary fascism France, Armenia in grip of brown plague

05 January 2024 15:12

We would like to touch upon the notorious events related to “Azerbaijan Park” in the French town of Evian-les-Bains, more precisely, the former “Azerbaijan Park”, because upon the decision of the mayor’s office of this town the park was actually deprived of this name.

Picturesque Evian-les-Bains is located on the southern French coast of Lake Geneva. The town is famous for its mineral water, balneological resorts, as well as a venue for international negotiations and conferences.

Evian-les-Bains and Azerbaijani Ismayilli became twin towns in May 2015. A Charter of Friendship and Cooperation was signed between the towns.

Evian hosted the opening ceremony of the “Azerbaijan Park” and the “Friendship” spring, as well as the monument to outstanding Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan in 2017 as a continuation of cooperation.

The situation was good until the French side stopped cooperating after the second Karabakh War as a sign of support for Armenia. There is reason to think that the monument to the poetess was not beautified from that moment.

Proceeding from old photographs, there were neat flower beds around the monument, while a photograph taken ten months ago shows that it has not been beautified for a long time. The park has been beautified everywhere except the area around the monument which was overgrown with weed.

Two months after the triumphant counter-terrorism measures in Karabakh, the French and the Armenians had already gone crazy. The unfounded accusations were made against Azerbaijan, while support for Armenia was expressed at a meeting of the Evian Municipal Council on December 18, 2023. The Evian mayor also announced the removal of all “Azerbaijan Park” signs.

So, municipal workers carefully scraped off all the signs indicating Azerbaijan. A little later, vandals (it is unknown whether municipal workers who scraped off the inscriptions or others) doused the monument to the poetess Natavan with red paint. Then the monument was covered with cloth. Discussions are underway at the mayor's office about the demolition of the monument.

The Azerbaijani side immediately responded. The Council, which is a permanent advisory body to the head of the executive power of the Ismayilli district, issued a statement on the termination of the Charter of Friendship and Cooperation signed between Ismayilli and Evian-les-Bains.

However, it is pleasant to realise that not everyone in France shares the Azerbaijanophobia of the French elites. Thus, famous journalist, editor-in-chief of the French La Gazette du Caucase online newspaper Jean-Michel Brun stood for the protection of the Natavan monument. We do not know whether the actions of this or similar conscientious representatives of the French nation will have any result or not. The current French government’s hatred towards Azerbaijan intensified.

However, the war with monuments and parks testifies to one thing. France cannot oppose anything to Azerbaijan in real politics. French identity is experiencing a collapse, and the representatives of the establishment, in anger, decided to pour paint on the Azerbaijani monuments.

However, the current situation is not the worst thing that can happen to France. The crisis of greatness can intensify far-right sentiments in society. Moreover, the actions of the representatives of the liberal establishment in Evian-les-Bains resemble fascism. An act of hostility towards one nation based on solidarity with another nation is fascism, is not it?

Vichy, the capital of the puppet regime in the 1940s, a symbol of French fascism, a city notorious for collaboration with the enemy, was also a resort.

The bacchanalia of the holidaymakers coincided, following the example of quantum doubles, with an event in Yerevan, which, by the way, was also connected with another monument.

A group of young men in black uniforms and with red-white-black flags (the sun is depicted on the flags - essentially the same swastika) gathered at the monument to fascist henchman Garegin Nzhdeh on January 1.

However, that's not all. The guys raised their arms in a Nazi salute (or simply “zagged”) and shouted something similar to “Sieg Heil” (Hitler salute).

According to the Armenian sources, the guys shouted “misht hai” which means “always Armenian” as if anyone would argue with this.

Armenia’s shifting towards Europe, along with the strengthening of ultra-right politicians in Europe itself, will aggravate ultra-nationalist sentiments in Armenian society.

We should be ready for a new revanchist Armenian project, fueled by European functionaries. The process is underway.

Meanwhile, the park in Evian-les-Bains has not been renamed yet. Proceeding from the logic of events, the new name should be in accordance with the spirit of the changes. What could be better than naming the park after Garegin Nzhdeh?

After this the green park can be turned into brown, making it a venue for supporters of far-right, extremist organisations. Everything will be fair. Everything will fall into place.
