Authorities crack down on alleged university crime ring in Armenia
On October 17, 2025, Armenian law enforcement detained the rector, vice-rector, and several staff members of the Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University.
According to Armenian media reports, cited by Caliber.Az, Rector Srbuhi Gevorgyan and other university employees were taken into custody in connection with allegations of bribery, either giving or receiving.
The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia confirmed that both the rector and vice-rector were detained as part of ongoing criminal proceedings.
The committee stated that the university leaders are accused of establishing and leading a criminal organisation composed of university staff, engaging in large-scale embezzlement and fraud, and accepting bribes.
Additional employees of the university were also detained in connection with the case.
