Azerbaijan, Armenia hold tenth border delimitation meeting
The 10th meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia and the Commission on the Matters of Delimitation of the State Border and Border Security between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan took place under the chairmanship of Shahin Mustafayev, the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, and Mher Grigoryan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia.
The meeting focused on the implementation of Article 7 of the Regulation on joint activities of the aforementioned Commissions signed on August 30, 2024.
The Parties exchanged notifications regarding the completion of necessary domestic procedures for the regulation's entry into force. They confirmed that the regulation would take effect on November 1, 2024, following the receipt of the final written notification, Caliber.Az reports.
During the discussions, the Parties prioritized specific border sections for further delimitation work and reviewed drafts of instructions outlining the procedures for these activities. They also agreed to determine the date and venue for the next meeting through a working process.
Following the commission meeting, Mustafayev and Grigoryan held separate discussions regarding issues on transportation communications.
Baku and Yerevan started the process of delimitation of their border on April 23, 2024 with the installation of the first border markers based on geodetic measurements. As part of the delimitation and demarcation process, Armenia agreed to vacate four Azerbaijani border villages it has occupied since the early 1990s, when the two countries fought a bloody war over the Karabakh (Garabagh) region of Azerbaijan.
