Azerbaijan, Cambodia parliaments vow closer cooperation at AIPA meeting PHOTO
Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Sahiba Gafarova and President of Cambodia’s National Assembly Khuon Sudary have agreed to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation and deepen collaboration within international parliamentary platforms, including the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The two delegations met in Malaysia on the sidelines of AIPA, where they highlighted the organisation’s role as an important venue for advancing parliamentary diplomacy. Both sides described Azerbaijan and Cambodia as friendly states with growing ties, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Gafarova underlined the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and recalled her official visit to Cambodia, noting the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Milli Majlis and Cambodia’s Chamber of Representatives. She welcomed the continued exchange of parliamentary delegations and participation in events hosted by both countries.
Sudary, for her part, reaffirmed Cambodia’s interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan across political, economic, trade, and investment fields. She praised Gafarova’s active participation in AIPA and commended Azerbaijan’s leadership during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, particularly in establishing the Parliamentary Network of NAM.
The two speakers also discussed avenues for closer cooperation within other international parliamentary organisations and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
