Armenia accepts new geopolitical reality, Azerbaijani presidential aide says

Armenia has accepted the new geopolitical reality and is shaping its policies accordingly, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, has said.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Hajiyev emphasised that the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process is about more than signed documents, stressing that Baku has demonstrated its commitment to peace through concrete actions despite Armenia's genocide against Azerbaijan and its consistent pursuit of peace, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“There is now peace in the South Caucasus. If the Armenia-Azerbaijan war had continued, the sparks from the conflicts unfolding around our neighbouring countries could have spread to our region as well,” he stressed.

The presidential aide also welcomed the Armenian government's adoption of the “Real Armenia” concept as its guiding political approach.

“They have realised that the occupation policy pursued for many years ultimately held them hostage and have understood that it was the wrong path. Armenia now recognises how important relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye are for its own development,” Hajiyev said.

He also described the opening of the Zangezur Corridor as part of the new geopolitical reality, saying it serves the interests of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Because Armenia also understands that having regional transit opportunities is important for its own development,” Hajiyev added.
