Russian delegation to attend CIS Games in Baku, minister confirms
Baku has extended an invitation to Russia’s Minister of Sports and the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Mikhail Degtyarev, to attend the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Games, Azerbaijani Sports Minister Farid Gayibov has confirmed.
Degtyarev revealed the invitation during the session “Sports Diplomacy: New Challenges and Opportunities” at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“International formats are increasingly developing in an intergovernmental context. Our delegation is preparing to travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the CIS Games. Minister Gayibov personally invited me, but I will make a separate decision regarding my visit,” Degtyarev said.
The third CIS Games will take place in Azerbaijan from September 28 to October 8, with opening and closing ceremonies scheduled in Ganja on September 28 and October 8, respectively. Over 260 Russian athletes are included in the national team’s entry list.
The tenth Eastern Economic Forum, running from September 3 to 6 in Vladivostok, is centred on the theme “Far East: Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity.”
The forum’s business programme includes more than 100 sessions across seven thematic blocks, with participation from over 4,500 delegates representing more than 70 countries and territories. The event is organised by the Roscongress Foundation.
