"Azerbaijan is not the aggressor. You are, Pashinyan" Armenian drivers blame their government for border delay at "Verkhniy Lars" checkpoint
Thousands of cars with Armenian license plates have now been stuck for over 20 days in long queues at the Georgian-Russian border while other cars are passing without issues.
As Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media outlets, the drivers of the stopped vehicles are complaining that the delay "man-made" and concerns only Armenian cars while passengers from Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan are not being stopped at the "Verkhniy Lars" (Upper Lars) control point, which forms an essential route to Russia for Armenia as the two countries do not share a border.
"Drivers are in a desperate situation and say that the Armenian government is absolutely not interested in this problem", the Armenian media reports while shifting blame to the Georgian customs officers. This is coinciding with the Armenian delegation headed by Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan visit to the country.
A driver stuck at the border control point blamed the Armenian government for this situation, saying, that "If a man is the head of the country, then the deputies of the National Assembly should tell him that there is such a problem in Lars, that we are rotting here without food and water. But what has he done for us? Pashinyan says every day: Azerbaijan is the aggressor. No, you are the biggest aggressor, you cut us out here! You talk about economic growth, but that growth is for you, not for a worker’s pocket. I’ve never seen this economic growth come into my family. Instead of moving forward, I am moving backwards".
