Azerbaijan marks National Revival Day
Today is the National Revival Day of Azerbaijan.
According to Report, the history of this holiday is related to the national liberation movement launched in Baku in November-December 1988.
At that time, the anti-Azerbaijani policy of the Soviet leadership around the Karabakh issue resulted in an anti-Soviet popular movement in Azerbaijan.
On November 17, 1988, Azerbaijani people began to hold long rallies in Baku's main square Azadliq (then Lenin square). Millions of people gathered in the square to protest against the anti-Azerbaijani policy of Moscow. In early December, Soviet internal troops dispersed the rallies but Moscow could not resist the Azerbaijani people's national liberation movement.
In September 1989, the Supreme Council adopted the Constitutional Act on the sovereignty of Azerbaijan, which further enraged Moscow and on January 19-20, 1990 troops were brought into Baku. Heavy equipment and firearms were used against the protesters and hundreds of protesters and civilians were killed. However, this event did not break the spirit of the Azerbaijani people; on the contrary, it accelerated the national liberation movement.
On October 18, 1991, Azerbaijan's state independence was declared. In May 1992, the APF came to power. The USSR troops posing a real threat to the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan were withdrawn in a short period of time.
On November 17, 1990, the first session of the Supreme Council of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with new composition was held. The words "Soviet" and "socialist" were excluded from the name of the Autonomous Republic. Excluding the words 'Soviet' and 'socialist' from the name of Nakhchivan at a time when the empire had not yet become history was a very significant historical step on the way to our independence. With this, the national leader Heydar Aliyev made the first big step to revive our national statehood. At the historical session chaired by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the issue of state symbols of the Autonomous Republic was also discussed. After the discussion, the people's deputies came up with a proposal to adopt the tricolor flag as a state symbol. The session, which decided to restore the tricolor flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, submitted a petition to the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan to adopt it as the state flag. This was the beginning of the historical path from national revival to national progress.
National Revival Day was declared in Azerbaijan on November 17, 1992.
For two years now, National Revival Day has been celebrated amid the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. As a result of counter-offensive operations of the Azerbaijani Army, which began on September 27 last year, our lands, which had been under occupation by the enemy for long years, were liberated. Every day during the 44 days of the Great Patriotic War settlements were liberated from the occupation and the Azerbaijani flag was raised there. The tricolor flag of Azerbaijan is hoisted in all the liberated regions.
For two years now, all the liberated territories have been revived, life is returning to Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur.
