Azerbaijan prevents Armenian provocation at Moroccan Film Festival
An Armenian attempt to provoke controversy at the Issni N'ourgh International Film Festival in Agadir, Morocco, was successfully thwarted with the help of Azerbaijani diplomatic intervention.
The festival, running from September 11 to 15, was set to feature a film by Katya Spivakova-Saakiyants titled “All I Need”, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Morocco told Caliber.Az.
Scheduled for screening on September 13, the film depicted events that occurred in territories previously occupied by Armenia. Specifically, the film referred to Karabakh as “Artsakh” and included references to the “Armenian genocide".
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Morocco took swift action upon learning of the film’s inclusion in the festival lineup. Diplomatic representatives engaged in urgent discussions with the festival organizers and Moroccan government officials, expressing concerns about the film's potential to incite discord and misrepresent historical facts.
The embassy’s intervention proved effective. Following negotiations, the festival organizers decided to cancel the screening of “All I Need,” thereby averting a potential diplomatic incident and maintaining the festival’s focus on its primary purpose — celebrating diverse cinematic works without political disruption.
