Azerbaijan, Turkic states hold first defence talks to deepen military partnership Photo

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence Industry, Vugar Mustafayev, took part in the first meeting of the heads of defence industry institutions of the member states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), held in Istanbul on July 23. 

The gathering was convened on the sidelines of the “IDEF 2025” International Defence Industry Fair, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ministry of Defence Industry.

Alongside Azerbaijan, delegations from Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were represented at the meeting.

In his remarks, Minister Mustafayev underscored Azerbaijan’s strong support for the Organisation of Turkic States, describing the platform as a strategic opportunity not only for political and economic cooperation but also for advancing military-technical collaboration.

He emphasised that establishing robust mechanisms of cooperation in the defence industry among Turkic nations would help secure shared security interests and strengthen national defence capabilities.

The minister further highlighted the considerable potential for joint research and development projects, exchange of technological expertise, training of engineering and technical personnel, mutual experience-sharing programmes, and joint production initiatives.

Minister Mustafayev also underlined the importance of the OTS in reducing technological dependence in the defence sector, calling it an essential platform for the strategic partnership among Turkic nations and a contributor to broader global peace and stability.

The meeting included discussions on the significance of defence industry partnerships and explored key directions for military-technical cooperation among the member states.
