Azerbaijan: Zangilan Int'l Airport gets IATA code

The new international airport, which is under construction in the liberated Zangilan District has received the international three-letter code ZZE.

The relevant resolution was adopted by the conference of the International Air Transport Association on Passenger Transportation (IATA Passenger Services Conference), Caliber.Az reports citing the press service of the Azerbaijan Airlines closed-type joint stock company.

"The international airport in Zangilan District is one of the important infrastructure projects in Eastern Zangazur. It will play a significant role in the socio-economic development of the region. Assigning a three-letter IATA code to Zangilan Airport is another step towards creating a large and modern logistics centre in it," AZAL President Jahangir Asgarov said.

The assigned unique code is formed by using the names of the city (Zangilan) and the region of its location (East Zangazur).

The three-letter IATA airport code is used for the commercial organisation of air transportation of passengers and cargo. It is used for international booking and in the work of ground services of airport complexes, that is, in international air ticket sales systems, flight schedules, aviation communications, etc.

Earlier, the ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organisation] assigned the four-letter ICAO code UBBZ to the international airport in Zangilan.

The construction of the international airport in Zangilan began in the spring of 2021.

The completion of construction works at the international airport in Zangilan is scheduled for this September. All types of passenger and cargo planes will be able to land and take off here.

The length of the runway of Zangilan International Airport is 3,000 metres, the width is 60 metres. The capacity of the air harbour terminal is designed for 200 passengers per hour.
