Experts debate global power changes and sovereignty at ADA forum in Karabakh PHOTO

08 April 2025 14:43

As part of the 7th ADA Political Forum at Karabakh University, a panel discussion was held on the topic "Geopolitical Changes and Their Impact on Sovereignty."

According to local media, the event was moderated by Farid Shafiev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations, Caliber.Az reports.

Shafiev highlighted that during his diplomatic service (2009-2019), he actively defended Azerbaijan's position on Karabakh: "We made efforts for a peaceful resolution, but at that time, it seemed that they expected us to give up Karabakh."

He noted that despite these challenges, Azerbaijan liberated its lands, and attempts to question the legitimacy of this outcome are groundless.

Shafiev also commented on calls for the release of individuals accused of war crimes, stating, "The process is going according to the law, and criminals must face just punishment."

Jennifer Wistrand, Deputy Director of the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center (USA), emphasized the importance of trade partnerships and institutional ties for strengthening states.

She mentioned that diversifying partners and investment sources reduces external dependence and promotes economic stability.

She also pointed out that, despite the widespread term "multipolarity," it does not adequately explain the essence of diplomatic interactions, especially in the context of global strategic instability from the United States, making planning difficult for both allies and competitors.

István Kis, Executive Director of the Danube Institute (Hungary), expressed his personal affinity for the Turkic world, highlighting the historically warm relations between Hungary and Turkic countries.

He also touched on the crisis within the European Union, noting that in the last 15 years, EU policies have increasingly conflicted with the national interests of member states. In his view, this is especially true for Germany and France, whose priorities, according to him, do not always reflect the actual policies of the Union.
