ANAMA clears over 1,000 unexploded munitions in Azerbaijan's formerly occupied regions
Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has successfully cleared more than 1,000 unexploded munitions across several liberated regions of the country.
In its latest weekly report, ANAMA confirmed the removal of 60 anti-personnel mines, 9 anti-tank mines, and 1,072 unexploded ordnance between April 14 and 20, Caliber.Az reports.
The hazardous materials were located in territories previously occupied, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankandi, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan.
In total, 893.8 hectares of land have been cleared of these dangerous remnants of war, significantly improving safety for local communities and paving the way for reconstruction efforts.
ANAMA’s efforts are part of a larger initiative to ensure the safe return of displaced persons and the rebuilding of infrastructure in the liberated territories. The agency continues to face significant challenges as it works to address the dangers posed by the extensive minefields left behind by the previous occupation.
