Demining progress: Azerbaijan neutralises over 300 dangerous devices in Karabakh VIDEO

14 April 2025 15:24

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has released latest weekly report detailing the ongoing demining efforts in the territories liberated from occupation.

According to the report, a substantial number of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as unexploded ordnance, have been detected and neutralised in various regions, Caliber.Az reports.

From April 7 to April 13, ANAMA successfully neutralised 86 anti-personnel mines, 12 anti-tank mines, and 224 unexploded ordnance across several liberated regions, including Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankandi, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan.

In addition to the neutralisation of these dangerous devices, a total of 1,245.5 hectares of land were cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance, contributing to the safety and rehabilitation of the areas.

ANAMA’s efforts are part of a larger initiative to ensure the safe return of displaced persons and the rebuilding of infrastructure in the liberated territories. The agency continues to face significant challenges as it works to address the dangers posed by the extensive minefields left behind by the previous occupation.

Following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, there are credible reports suggesting that Armenia has intentionally planted landmines in these regions as part of its military strategy. These land mines are reportedly aimed at causing harm to civilians and hindering the return of displaced individuals, thus posing a significant security risk to the area.

In response to this threat, a comprehensive demining initiative has been launched, involving collaborative efforts from various agencies, including the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Service. These organizations are working diligently to ensure the safety of the liberated territories, facilitating the safe return of civilians and enabling them to resume their normal lives.

The ongoing demining operations reflect Azerbaijan's dedication to post-conflict reconstruction and the provision of humanitarian assistance in the regions affected by the recent conflict.
