BSEC Secretary-General: Azerbaijan invested billions in Karabakh reconstruction
Asef Hajiyev, Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), announced that Azerbaijan has invested billions of dollars in rebuilding the recently liberated Karabakh region.
Speaking at the panel discussion on "Parliamentary Diplomacy in Global Governance" at the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2025), Hajiyev highlighted the scale of Azerbaijan's efforts. He noted that the property of those displaced from their homes 30 years ago was entirely destroyed.
"Every tenth citizen of Azerbaijan holds the status of an internally displaced person," Hajiyev said, stressing that the issue of refugees and displaced persons is a global challenge.
He further emphasized the significance of the financial commitment to Karabakh's recovery, calling it an extraordinary sum for a single nation. The reconstruction process continues to be a central part of Azerbaijan’s national priorities.
Note that the ADF2025, taking place at the Nest Congress Centre in Belek, Türkiye, will feature nearly 50 sessions addressing a wide array of global issues, including regional conflicts, climate change, counterterrorism, and humanitarian challenges. A key panel will focus on regional cooperation in the South Caucasus, with foreign ministers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia engaging in discussions on growth and stability in the region.
Special attention will be given to Türkiye's foreign policy, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan participating in discussions on Gaza and engaging in high-level talks with Bosnian, Croatian, and Iraqi counterparts.
Over 20 heads of state, 74 ministers, and 1,000 journalists from 50 countries are attending the forum, which includes representatives from Arab, African, European, and Middle Eastern NGOs, academics, and business leaders. Enhanced security measures are in place, with patrols along the Mediterranean coastline.
