Azerbaijan faces monumental reconstruction task in Karabakh, says special representative
Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, outlined the challenges of rebuilding Karabakh during his address at the 7th ADA Political Forum held at Karabakh University.
Speaking to attendees, Huseynov highlighted the severe devastation in the region following the occupation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“After the occupation, we see only ruins. In some places, there are not even ruins left because everything was looted. No cultural landmarks remain, no mosques, and even the trees were taken down. This illustrates the complexity of the reconstruction process,” he stated.
Huseynov also detailed progress in the construction of new schools and kindergartens, with five such institutions already completed in Fuzuli and Aghdam.
In addition to reconstruction projects, Huseynov emphasised the importance of cultural and historical restoration, mentioning the rehabilitation of the Juma Mosque in Aghdam. The mosque, which was the only structure to survive, was defiled and used as a livestock barn for pigs and cows.
Huseynov also highlighted significant progress in demining efforts over the past five years. “An airport has been built in Fuzuli, along with four reservoirs, two hydroelectric plants, and three major pipelines.
Additionally, plans are underway to construct eight residential districts, with one already completed. Development is also underway for villages, with two residential complexes under construction,” he added.
