Azerbaijani ambassador calls for end to former Turkish MP’s unrealistic dream on Karabakh
Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Türkiye Rashad Mammadov has called for the end of what he referred to as the unrealistic dream of former Turkish MP Garo Paylan.
Mammadov made these remarks during his speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s commemoration of the Khojaly genocide, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The ambassador strongly disagreed with Paylan's recent statements in the Armenian press, where the former Turkish parliamentarian of Armenian descent once again raised the issue of Karabakh, calling for international support from the US and France.
Mammadov condemned Paylan’s comments, describing them as a speech that poisons the minds of the Armenian people. He emphasised that such reckless behavior must be condemned by Turkish society, warning that, if unchecked, these provocations could hinder efforts for peace and potentially push Armenia towards further conflict.
The remarks by Mammadov highlight ongoing tensions surrounding the Karabakh issue and the challenges in achieving lasting peace in the region.
The Khojaly genocide is the gravest crime committed against peaceful Azerbaijani people in the course of Armenia’s aggressive war against Azerbaijan.
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, in violation of all international legal norms, Armenian armed forces attacked the civilian population of the sieged town of Khojaly with heavy military equipment, killing them with unprecedented brutality and razing the town to the ground. As a result of crime against not only the people of Azerbaijan but against humanity, 613 civilian Azerbaijanis, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elders were brutally murdered on grounds of national identity. The Khojaly genocide is one of a series of acts of mass slaughter aiming to crush those who rose up for the defence of their lands from Armenian armed forces’ aggression.
