Azerbaijani appointed deputy mayor in Georgia
Tural Valiyev, an Azerbaijani lawyer, has been appointed as one of the deputy mayors of the Bolnisi district in Georgia under Mayor Zamura Chitanava.
Aleksandre Zabakhidze was named First Deputy Mayor, while Valentina Naveriani and Tural Valiyev — representing the Azerbaijani community in the region — were appointed as deputies, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Bolnisi City Council.
Valiyev is a lawyer by profession and has experience working in various institutions. From 2021 to 2025, he served as an assistant to the mayor of Dmanisi. His appointment highlights the inclusion of the Azerbaijani community in local governance in Bolnisi, a district with a significant Azerbaijani population.
Zamura Chitanava was elected mayor of Bolnisi as the candidate of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party in the local elections held on October 4 of this year.
Tural Valiyev graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Tbilisi State University named after Javakhishvili. He worked in various private and public positions from 2016 to 2021. From 2021 to 2025, he served as an advisor to the Mayor of Dmanisi, Koba Muradashvili.
