Azerbaijani FM discuss cooperation with head of UNESCO office in Addis Ababa PHOTO
On April 4, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Rita Bissoonauth, Head of the UNESCO Addis Ababa Office, as well as the Secretaries General of the UNESCO National Commissions in Guinea, Congo, Ivory Coast, Niger, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, Gabon, who arrived to participate in the training organized by ADA University and Azerbaijani National Commission for UNESCO and Institute of Development and Diplomacy.
The meeting discussed issues of multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and African countries, including within the framework of UNESCO, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Noting that Azerbaijan's chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement contributes to the further development of relations, Bayramov recalled that at the summit of NAM contact group on combating COVID-19 held in March in Baku, Azerbaijan made an appeal to support post-pandemic reconstruction of Africa and small island developing states.
Stressing the importance of cooperation of the country with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, Bayramov said that as a donor country Azerbaijan closely cooperates with UNESCO in education, culture, sports and science.
Recalling Azerbaijan as a member of the global education coalition supported educational projects implemented in various countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister said one of priority directions was promotion of female education in a number of countries.
Bayramov also informed the participants of the meeting about the situation in the region after the 44-day war, the large-scale reconstruction and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period in the region. It was noted that despite Armenia's military-political provocations hindering the peace process, Azerbaijan is resolute in advancing the peace agenda.
Rita Bissoonauth thanked Azerbaijan for organizing a training program for Secretaries General of National Commissions of 10 African countries. It was noted that this training program will play an important role in expanding ties between Azerbaijan and African countries within UNESCO.
