Azerbaijani MFA extends warm wishes to Turkmenistan on Independence Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Turkmenistan on the occasion of its Independence Day.

In the statement, the ministry expressed its warm congratulations and sincere wishes to the fraternal nation of Turkmenistan and its people, Caliber.Az quotes the foreign ministry as saying on X.

The congratulatory message reflects the strong ties and camaraderie between the two nations, celebrating Turkmenistan's national day with appreciation and goodwill:

“Heartfelt congratulations and sincere wishes to brotherly Turkmenistan and its people on the occasion of its NationalDay! Happy National Day, Turkmenistan!”

Turkmenistan's path to independence began with a pivotal moment on October 26, 1991, when the nation held a referendum titled "State Sovereignty of Turkmenistan" following the collapse of the Soviet Union. An overwhelming 94% of the population voted in favour of independence.

On October 27, 1991, the law on independence and the foundations of Turkmenistan's state system was passed, officially declaring this day as the nation's Independence Day.

In 2017, Turkmenistan amended its constitution, moving the celebration to September 27, with the new date observed starting in 2018.

Notably, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have been developing their bilateral relations steadily, focusing on political, economic, and energy cooperation. Both countries share the Caspian Sea and have interests in the region's energy resources, particularly in oil and gas.

Diplomatic ties were established shortly after Azerbaijan gained independence in the early 1990s. Both nations have maintained dialogue on regional stability and security.

Both nations have significant natural gas reserves and are exploring joint projects for the transportation of energy resources.
