PM: Georgia and Azerbaijan poised for closer ties in trade, politics, and regional stability
During a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze underscored Tbilisi's ambition to strengthen its ties with Azerbaijan in a variety of fields.
He emphasized the importance of expanding the bilateral relationship, particularly in trade, where Azerbaijan plays a significant role as one of Georgia's five main trade partners, Caliber.Az reports.
"We are glad that Azerbaijan is among the five main trade partners of Georgia, and we are ready to expand trade," Kobakhidze remarked, expressing optimism about the potential for even greater economic collaboration.
Kobakhidze also expressed eagerness for President Aliyev’s upcoming visit to Georgia, looking forward to furthering diplomatic relations. "We look forward to your visit to Georgia this year," he said, signalling a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation at all levels.
During the briefing, Kobakhidze further praised President Aliyev, calling him an exemplary leader for his efforts to advance Azerbaijan’s interests on both the domestic and international stage. “You are for us an example of a leader who leads the country forward, defending the interests of his people and the state,” Kobakhidze stated, highlighting Aliyev’s role in strengthening Azerbaijan’s position globally.
Additionally, Kobakhidze acknowledged the significance of their nations' partnership in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He stressed that the cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan is of paramount importance, particularly in addressing regional and global challenges. "The cooperation of our countries in the region is of particular importance for preserving peace and stability. We continue to support each other's sovereignty," Kobakhidze said, reflecting on the discussions held during the meeting about the ongoing political processes that affect both nations.
Reaffirming the strategic nature of the bilateral relationship, the Georgian Prime Minister reiterated the priority of deepening ties with Azerbaijan. “We are also ready to promote trilateral dialogue and regional cooperation,” he added, emphasizing the shared commitment to safeguarding regional peace and stability, particularly in the South Caucasus.
