Azerbaijan commends Georgia’s efforts in combating climate change

17 January 2025 13:30

Azerbaijan has affirmed deep appreciation for Georgia's contributions to the global fight against climate change, with Prime Minister Ali Asadov acknowledging the significant role played by the neighboring nation in environmental efforts.

In his opening remarks at the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in Baku, Asadov highlighted Georgia’s active participation in global climate discussions, particularly at the COP29 conference, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“We highly appreciate Georgia's contribution to combating global climate change,” Asadov stated.

He also expressed confidence that the meeting, which marks the 10th anniversary of the commission, would yield positive outcomes for bilateral relations between the two countries. “I am confident that our discussions, decisions, and protocols, along with the bilateral documents to be adopted, will contribute to further strengthening the ties between Azerbaijan and Georgia,” he added.

Asadov also noted the planned inspection of the land allocated for the new Georgian Embassy in Baku, a project facilitated by a decision from the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers. "This land plot, provided on behalf of the President of Azerbaijan, is located in one of the most picturesque areas of central Baku," he said.

In a meeting between Azerbaijani PM Ali Asadov and his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobakhidze, the sides discussed the strategic partnership between the two countries and addressed key issues on the agenda of the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

The meeting focused on the "positive dynamics" of the growing bilateral cooperation between the two countries across various sectors. Both officials underscored the significance of maintaining stability and peace in the South Caucasus region, highlighting their shared commitment to regional security.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze reaffirmed Georgia's "readiness" to promote trilateral dialogue and further develop regional cooperation, stressing the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.

Kobakhidze's official visit to Azerbaijan, which commenced on January 17, includes a delegation of prominent Georgian officials, including Levan Davitashvili, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development; Maka Botchorishvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Davit Songulashvili, Minister of Environment and Agriculture; Tinatin Rukhadze, Minister of Culture; and Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration.
