TURKPA says US amendment risks undermining Baku–Yerevan dialogue

25 July 2026 12:59

The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA) said that an amendment adopted by the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, which includes a number of claims against Azerbaijan, could negatively affect the ongoing normalisation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The statement was issued by TURKPA Secretary General Ramil Hasan, according to Report news agency.

TURKPA expressed serious concern over the introduction of the initiative at a time when efforts to normalise relations between Baku and Yerevan are ongoing, alongside broader initiatives aimed at establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus.

“Legislative decisions on such important and sensitive issues should be based on an objective assessment of facts and the principles of international law, not on the interests of individual lobbying groups. TURKPA calls on legislative bodies to refrain from steps that may negatively affect the ongoing process of normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the statement said.

The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, as well as the strengthening of good-neighbourly relations.
