Azerbaijan, Georgia hold high-level talks to strengthen diplomatic ties

16 January 2025 19:55

On January 16, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with a Georgian delegation led by Foreign Minister Maia Bochotashvili.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the meeting began with a one-on-one discussion between the two foreign ministers, followed by an expanded session with the participation of delegations from both sides, Caliber.Az reports via the ministry's statement.

During the talks, political, economic, and humanitarian aspects of the Azerbaijan–Georgia strategic partnership were discussed, alongside pressing regional issues.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of strategic partnership and highlighted that active political dialogue at the highest leadership level serves as a strong foundation for bilateral relations.

The parties also noted the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia within international and regional frameworks, based on mutual respect for each other’s legitimate interests and mutual benefit.

The discussions included joint projects in the fields of "green" energy and communications, which are set to enhance the significance of both countries as suppliers of data and clean energy globally, while also contributing to the long-term sustainable development of their economies.

The humanitarian aspect of Azerbaijan–Georgia relations was also underscored, with particular emphasis on expanding contacts and cooperation in tourism, education, science, and culture.

Minister Bayramov informed his Georgian counterpart about Azerbaijan’s efforts to normalize interstate relations with Armenia and the signing of a peace agreement. He stressed that these efforts are also aimed at establishing peace and stability, as well as fostering inclusive regional cooperation and development throughout the South Caucasus.

Bayramov further noted that Armenia’s continued territorial claims against Azerbaijan in its Constitution and other legislative acts, as well as the country's revanchist tendencies and rapid militarization, pose a serious threat to the peace process.
