Azerbaijanis mark Solidarity Day
Today, December 31, Azerbaijanis around the world mark the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, a holiday that plays an important role in strengthening ties and reinforcing unity among them.
As Caliber.Az recalls, the foundations of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis were laid in late December 1989, during the dismantling of the Soviet–Iranian border in Nakhchivan. Border barriers between Northern and Southern Azerbaijan were removed at that time. Simultaneously, a Conference of Turkic-speaking peoples was taking place in Istanbul, where a decision was also adopted to establish the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis worldwide.
On December 16, 1991, Heydar Aliyev, who at the time served as Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, recognising the importance of unity among Azerbaijanis around the world, officially declared December 31 the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
Thus, December 31 is celebrated as a cherished holiday for all Azerbaijanis—the Day of Solidarity. This day stands as a source of pride for Azerbaijanis across the globe.
Happy Solidarity Day, dear readers! May our unity grow stronger with each passing day, supporting us in both joyful and challenging times. Together, we can overcome any challenge.
