Envoy: Ethiopia hopes Azerbaijan will participate in COP32 at highest level
Ethiopia’s election as host of COP32 in 2027 is expected to open new avenues for cooperation with Azerbaijan, the country’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, based in Ankara, Adem Mohamed Mahmud, has said.
Ambassador Mahmud highlighted the opportunities that COP32 presents for strengthening collaboration between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Azerbaijan successfully organised COP29, demonstrating strong institutional capacity. Ethiopia actively participated in COP29 and gained valuable experience. We hope Azerbaijan will take part in COP32 at the highest level and share its expertise with us,” the diplomat said.
He added that Ethiopia possesses substantial experience in hosting international conferences and is committed to the Green Heritage Initiative, which will form a key part of preparations for COP32.
COP32, part of the UN Climate Change Conference series, will bring together global leaders to discuss climate action and sustainable development. Ethiopia’s hosting marks an important step in promoting environmental initiatives across Africa.
Türkiye will host the COP31 climate summit on November 9-20 in Antalya, while Australia will guide the negotiation process. The arrangement resolves a dispute between the two nations, both of which had sought to host the UN climate talks.
Under the agreement, Türkiye will serve as the venue for COP31 in Antalya, the Mediterranean resort city that hosts an annual diplomatic forum, while Australia will oversee the year-long process of shaping the summit’s agenda and priorities. A pre-COP meeting will be held in a Pacific Island nation.
Türkiye has stated it plans to use the summit to promote solidarity between wealthy and developing nations, highlighting a global rather than regional focus.
