Georgia's FM praises friendly bilateral ties between Tbilisi, Baku during first visit
Georgia's new foreign minister has highlighted the friendly relations her country enjoys with neighboring Azerbaijan, referring to Baku "an important partner for us".
Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili gave this statement in the course of the new Georgian government's recent visit to Baku, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
“Bilateral relations and ties between our peoples are based on the principle of friendship. The common goals of our two countries should, of course, focus on the region's well-being, the proper representation of the region's role, and the interests of Georgia and Azerbaijan on the international stage,” Bochorishvili stated during her first visit to Baku since becoming minister, on which she embarked upon together with her country's prime minister, Irakli Kobakhidze.
“It was important for us that after the elections, under the new government, the Prime Minister of Georgia made his first visit to neighboring countries. We started the tour with Azerbaijan,” the Georgian Foreign Minister emphasized, revealing that the Georgian delegation held important high-level meetings in Azerbaijan.
Bochorishvili, a former MP from the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, has been appointed foreign minister in November 2024. The seasoned diplomat has held various positions within the ministry of foreign affairs including rotations to Brussels and Vienna, as well as heading various committees focused on her country's relations with the EU.
