Azerbaijan, Türkiye pledge to enhance regional stability, economic collaboration
Azerbaijan and Türkiye’s bilateral relations have reached new heights, with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasizing that the historic Shusha Declaration has transformed these ties into an official alliance.
Addressing a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, Bayramov highlighted the broad scope and deep content of the two countries' relationship, which continues to expand across various sectors, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Bayramov noted that numerous successful projects are underway between the nations, with nearly 4,000 Turkish companies operating in Azerbaijan. He also pointed out that in the territories liberated from occupation, Turkish companies are playing a significant role alongside Azerbaijani businesses. This growing economic collaboration underscores the strength of bilateral partnership, which also extends into the energy sector.
The two countries are poised to cooperate further in the area of green energy, with Bayramov stressing the potential for joint efforts in supplying green energy to the European market. He pointed to the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway capacity expansion last year and the increased capacity of the Baku Sea Port as key developments that will enhance the operational capacity of the Middle Corridor, a vital route for trade and energy flow between Europe and Asia.
In addition to these developments, Bayramov confirmed that Azerbaijan plans to restore its diplomatic mission in Syria as soon as possible. Having had no diplomatic presence in Syria since 2012, Azerbaijan recently sent a delegation to Damascus, where meetings were held with Syrian officials. These discussions marked Azerbaijan’s intention to reestablish its embassy and reintegrate into regional diplomatic affairs.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also expressed optimism about the continued growth of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye relationship. He underscored the importance of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway project, which remains a key goal for both nations. Fidan highlighted that Türkiye and Azerbaijan have always supported each other, particularly during times of hardship, and vowed that their mutual commitment would persist as they continue to work side by side for peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
Fidan also emphasized the significance of strengthening the Organization of Turkic States, calling it a strategic priority for both Türkiye and Azerbaijan. He affirmed that the two countries are committed to furthering the organization’s efforts in 2024, underscoring their shared vision of regional unity and cooperation.
As both countries continue to deepen their alliance, their focus remains on enhancing regional stability, fostering economic collaboration, and promoting peace, with Azerbaijan and Türkiye firmly aligned on the same path forward.
