Georgian ambassador highlights significance of new embassy construction in Baku
Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze has said that the new Georgian embassy will be located in the central part of Azerbaijan's capital Baku, which is crucial for strengthening the ties between the two friendly countries.
“Today, we had meetings with the president and prime minister of Azerbaijan, and an intergovernmental economic commission session was organised. We also had the opportunity to visit the plot of land allocated by the Azerbaijani government for the construction of the Georgian embassy,” the diplomat told journalists, describing the visit of the prime minister of Georgia to Azerbaijan as a very significant event, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The land plot is located in the centre of Baku and spans 3,500 square metres. The Georgian embassy will be built on this site, where various projects will be implemented.
The ambassador's residence, the consulate’s reception area, and the main embassy building will also be located here.
“I believe this is very important for the development and strengthening of relations between our neighboring and friendly countries,” he added.
On January 17, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze arrived in Azerbaijan for his first official foreign visit to attend the 10th meeting of the intergovernmental commission (IGC) on economic cooperation.
Kobakhidze said that Georgia is interested in implementing specific practical steps and enhancing regional cooperation. He said that the country has proposed a trilateral cooperation initiative that involves the three South Caucasus nations in various spheres of collaboration and emphasised that the IGC session would foster dynamic cooperation between the two countries.
Kobakhidze’s agenda included meetings with top Azerbaijani officials to further strengthen bilateral relations. The Georgian delegation featured prominent leaders, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environment and Agriculture David Songulashvili, Minister of Culture Tinatin Rukhadze, and Head of Government Administration Levan Jorjoliani.
Kobakhidze’s visit underscored the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan, signalling both countries' commitment to fostering regional stability and mutual growth.
