Azerbaijani president honors Türkiye, Pakistan for unwavering support during Patriotic War

President Ilham Aliyev has conveyed his profound gratitude to Türkiye and Pakistan for their unwavering political and moral support extended to Azerbaijan during the Second Karabakh War.

Addressing the audience ahead of the Independence Day concert in Lachin, the President highlighted the symbolic significance of the gathering, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Especially here in this region, in the city of Lachin, which was under occupation for 30 years, our being together carries great symbolic meaning. During the 44-day Second Karabakh War, Turkiye and Pakistan supported us. Their support inspired us and gave us additional strength. We are always grateful to the leaders of these brotherly countries and their brotherly peoples for this great political and moral support,” President Aliyev stated.

Cession of Western Zangazur from Azerbaijan

Marking the 107th anniversary of a pivotal moment in Azerbaijani history, President Aliyev emphasized the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as a landmark event.

“107 years ago, the first democratic republic in the Muslim world – the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic – was established in Azerbaijan. This was a landmark historical event,” said President Aliyev.

 The President also lamented the brevity of the republic’s existence, noting the loss of independence in April 1920 and the subsequent territorial injustices faced by Azerbaijan.

“Regrettably, the head of state noted, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic had a short lifespan, and in April 1920, Azerbaijan lost its independence. He added that just a few months later, the Western Zangazur region was separated from Azerbaijan and annexed to Armenia. “This was a grave injustice, and the Azerbaijani people have faced similar injustices throughout history,” the President said.

President Ilham Aliyev conveyed his firm belief that the messages conveyed today from liberated Lachin by Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Pakistan will resonate powerfully across the globe.

“The participation of my dear brothers – the President of Turkiye and the Prime Minister of Pakistan – alongside us in these celebratory events, and the support and solidarity shown to us, have created completely new realities on a global scale. Our strength lies in our unity,” declared President Ilham Aliyev.

Highlighting the significance of trilateral cooperation, the President added, “Today, we once again confirmed our unity in a trilateral format. The songs performed at today’s celebration concert will further demonstrate our unity and showcase how rich our culture is. I am confident that the messages sent to the world today by the three countries from liberated Lachin will reach their intended destinations.”
