Netherlands to deploy Patriot, NASAMS systems to Poland
The Netherlands will send Patriot air defence systems, National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS), and counter-drone equipment to Poland in December to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank and protect a critical logistics hub supporting Ukraine, the Dutch Defence Ministry announced on September 30.
Speaking during a visit to a Dutch F-35 detachment in Poland, Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans said the deployment underscores the Netherlands’ commitment to NATO’s security, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“The eastern NATO border is also our security border,” Brekelmans stated. “We stand ready, determined to defend this border together with our allies.”
Dutch F-35 fighter jets have been operating from Poland since September 1 as part of NATO’s air policing mission. The deployment is set to continue until December 1.
According to the ministry, the jets have already been scrambled several times, including one live engagement against hostile drones.
Following his visit, Brekelmans attended a security conference in Warsaw alongside his German and Estonian counterparts and a European commissioner.
The talks focused on military support for Ukraine, strengthening NATO’s collective defense, and expanding Europe’s defense industrial capacity.
