Azerbaijani, Turkish defence chiefs to watch bombing raid by upgraded Su-25 jet

11 May 2023 13:25

An Azerbaijani Su-25 fighter jet modernised by Türkiye will conduct a bombing raid on May 11.

The Azerbaijani Su-25 direct air support aircraft, which took an active part in the 2020 Second Karabakh War, has been upgraded by the Turkish defence industry, Caliber.Az reports, citing SavunmaSanayiST.com on its Twitter page.

The Turkish-made high-precision munitions were integrated into the Su-25, and the avionics were also upgraded.

The Su-25 recently conducted its first bomb drop from the KKN-83 (Wing Guidance Kit). A high-level delegation, including Azerbaijan Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov and National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar will observe the re-bombing on May 11.

The first phase of the Azerbaijani Su-25 modernisation project will be completed following the launch of the KKN-83 at the Konya range. TÜBİTAK-SAGE will carry out the integration of the KKN-83 for a certain number of Su-25 aircraft.

In Azerbaijan's Su-25 project, Türkiye is integrating NATO-standard national ammunition into Soviet-made aircraft, which is important for export.

General characteristics of the Wing Guidance Kit:

o Long flying range with an unfolding wing;

o Capable of operating day and night in all weather conditions;

o Built-in ANS/KKS (INS/GPS software support) feature - precision strike capability;

o Compatible with F-16C Block 40 and F 4E/2020 combat aircraft

o Selectable firing angle;

o Attack on possible targets;

o Capable of following route checkpoints;

o Compliant with US defence standard “MIL-STD”
