Azerbaijani, Turkish presidents focus on strategic alliance, Syrian stability
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on December 10.
During the talk, the sides reaffirmed the development of brotherly and friendly relations, which are founded on a strategic alliance, Caliber.Az reports.
President Aliyev praised the active participation of President Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan in the COP29 World Leaders' Summit held in Azerbaijan, underscoring the significant contribution made by the Turkish delegation to the success of the event.
In response, President Erdogan congratulated President Aliyev on the successful outcomes of COP29 and the progress achieved during the summit’s negotiations.
The conversation also addressed various issues concerning the South Caucasus and the Middle East, with particular focus on the situation following the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.
The presidents offered congratulations to the Syrian people on this occasion and reiterated their commitment to supporting Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
President Aliyev expressed his hope that Syria would soon enter a period of stability, bolstered by Türkiye’s support. He also stated that Azerbaijan, alongside Türkiye, is prepared to assist the Syrian people in overcoming their humanitarian challenges.
President Erdogan, for his part, emphasized that Azerbaijan and Türkiye would continue to work in unison to provide humanitarian aid and support to Syria, as they do in all other areas of cooperation.
The leaders concluded discussion by exchanging views on the prospects for the continued development of strategic alliance and the further strengthening of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
