Baghdad vows to keep Iraq out of regional conflict
Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks on Thursday, March 5, 2026, with Joshua Harris, the chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, to discuss the escalating war in the region and its implications for regional stability.
According to a statement published on the social platform X by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq and cited by Caliber.Az, the meeting focused on the developments surrounding the ongoing conflict and the broader impact it may have across the Middle East.
During the talks, Fuad Hussein warned about the dangers posed by the continuation of the war and the potential consequences it could have for security and stability throughout the region. The foreign minister also outlined the financial and economic effects of the war and explained how the unfolding regional crisis is influencing Iraqi society.
Hussein reaffirmed that the Iraqi government remains committed to protecting diplomatic missions operating in the country and ensuring their safety in accordance with international agreements and norms.
At the same time, he reiterated that Iraq would not allow its territory to be used as a platform for hostile actions against neighbouring states. In this context, the minister referred to a statement by the leadership of Iraqi Kurdistan, which confirmed that the regional authorities do not permit any party to use its land to organise acts of violence against neighbouring countries, including Iran.
