Baku court opens appeal proceedings in case of convicted Armenian citizens
A Baku court has accepted for consideration an appeal against the judgment handed down to Armenian citizens, including Araik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, Davit Babayan, Levon Mnatsakanyan, and others.
The individuals were previously found guilty of committing crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes resulting from Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, including the preparation and waging of a war of aggression, genocide, violation of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing of terrorism, forcible seizure and retention of power, and other crimes, Caliber.Az reports via Azertag.
The case will be heard at the Baku Court of Appeal, with Judge Elmar Rahimov presiding. The trial begins today, on May 26.
According to the ruling of the Baku Military Court, Araik Harutyunyan, Davit Mankyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, Davit Babayan, and Levon Mnatsakanyan were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan were each sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment, Madat Babayan and Melikshet Pashayan to 19 years each, Garik Martirosyan to 18 years, David Allahverdyan and Levon Balayan to 16 years each, and Vasily Beglaryan, Gurgen Stepanyan and Erik Gazaryan to 15 years’ imprisonment.
