Baku hosts reception celebrating Romania’s National Day photo
An official reception marking Romania’s National Day was held in Baku.
According to local media, the event was organised by the Romanian Embassy in Azerbaijan and opened with the national anthems of both countries.
Romania’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Vasile Soare, addressed the gathering and spoke about his country’s history and the importance of the National Day. He highlighted that the proclamation of the Great Union of Romanians from Bessarabia, Bukovina and Transylvania, announced in Alba Iulia in 1918, played a decisive role in shaping modern Romanian statehood.
Reflecting on the relations between Azerbaijan and Romania, the ambassador underlined that the partnership between the two states has been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership. He noted that cooperation across political, economic, energy, transport and humanitarian sectors is developing rapidly.
Soare also drew special attention to the “Green Energy Corridor” initiative, transport routes across the Black Sea and the rise in bilateral trade, describing these as clear indicators of a strong and expanding dialogue between the two nations.
Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Musa Gasimli, conveyed President Ilham Aliyev’s heartfelt congratulations to the Romanian state and people on the occasion of the National Day.
Gasimli recalled that Romania was among the first countries to recognise Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991. He emphasised that the foundations of bilateral cooperation were laid during the visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Romania, and that today these relations have been raised to the level of a strategic partnership.
He added that reciprocal visits by the heads of state and signed documents — including the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership — have further reinforced the legal basis of bilateral ties.
The reception concluded with a cultural program.
