Baku.Tv's special reportage causes ruffle in Armenian media

19 August 2023 14:52

A story made by Baku.Tv from Armenia on local mining enterprises that led to an environmental disaster in Zangazur caused a great stir in the "land of stones" and showed the weakness of the neighbouring country's state security system.

Caliber.Az reports that Armenia’s “Hraparak” newspaper published a statement by Eco-Media NGO founder Narine Kirakosyan, who said that the filming of the Azerbaijani channel in Armenia was supported by several local environmentalists who gave interviews and spoke about the Zangazur copper and molybdenum combine and other local mining enterprises.

The publication's article says that Baku.Tv journalists, without using Armenian toponyms, forced Armenian environmentalists to name local mining companies as the culprits of the environmental disaster that has befallen Zangazur.

"I don't know whether the National Security Service of Armenia interrogated the people involved in the video, asked them how and why they gave interviews to this Azerbaijani channel?" Narine Kirakosyan writes.

In addition, Narine Kirakosyan said that she had already asked three people how it happened that they gave interviews to Baku.Tv in Russian. In response, Inga Zarafyan, head of the NGO Ecolur, said that Azerbaijani journalists introduced themselves to her as correspondents of the Russian publication Bloknot.ru and made a preliminary electronic request, after which she met with them and gave an interview.

The Armenian publication also reports that Albert Atayan, a local resident, and Vladik Martirosyan, head of an environmental NGO known to everyone in the Gafan district, also gave an interview to the Azerbaijani TV channel.

It was Albert Atayan who asked Vladik Martirosyan to give an interview to Baku.Tv. According to Atayan, there was an Armenian guy with Baku.Tv correspondent, who in turn introduced himself as Tigran, a cameraman for the Mir TV channel.

In turn, the great skill of the Baku.Tv journalists, who managed to get to Armenia, leave the country's special services fooled and force local environmentalists to tell the whole truth about the scale of the environmental disaster caused by the mining industry in Gafan and Gajaran, which is slowly killing both the local population and the population of the entire region, should be noted.

"In the information field Armenia suffers defeats because of the failure of the national security system, and more precisely because all existing resources are concentrated on the physical security of one person and the preservation of his power," the publication writes.
